Jacob "J" Saves the Day for the JV Football Team
On Saturday, October 13th, 2018, SMS had their football homecoming games at Narberth Park. The JV played against Sacred Heart after the Varsity won the early game. As a 5th Grader, it was exciting to see my classmates on the field. The JV played an exciting game and many people attended despite the cold weather and muddy ground. Sacred Heart took an early lead 7-0. The SMS defense then scored a touchdown off of a big hit and a fumble recovery, but failed to convert the 2pt. conversion.7-6 Sacred Heart. That is how the half ended.

In the second half, with the weather getting colder and the fans getting nervous, SMS rushed down the sidelines and scored a touchdown to finally take the lead. They missed on the conversion again, so the score was 12-7 SMS.

Then, late in the game, with the clock winding down, Sacred Heart started a march downfield. SMS struggled to hold them back. Sacred Heart eventually got into the red zone with just minutes to go. They looked as if they were going to score. Down inside the 10 yard line, Sacred Heart attempted 3 running plays in a row, with Jacob Jackson of 5th Grade making a great stop on one of them. It was now 4th down and Sacred Heart's last chance. Fans on both sidelines were really nervous and cheering loudly. If they scored a touchdown the game would be over with an SMS loss. Sacred Heart ran to the right side again, but Jacob J made another great tackle sending the runner to the ground to seal the victory. SMS 12 and Sacred Heart 7.
It was certainly a great game and an exciting finish. It was a total team effort with offense and defense both scoring. Congratulations to both the JV and the Varsity! - AM
